DEALING WITH DRIFTING

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2:1 (NIV)

But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News.Colossians 1:23a (NLT)

Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups . . . Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it.2 Corinthians 13:5 (MSG)

Two examples of drifting in the Bible: David and Peter

One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful . . . Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her.2 Samuel 11:2,4 (NIV)

Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Luke 22:60-62 (NIV)

HOW DO YOU KEEP FROM DRIFTING?

LOOK TO GOD’S LOVE FOR YOUR

COMFORT

I serve you, LORD. Comfort me with your love, just as you have promised. Psalm 119:76 (CEV)

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3 (NLT)

LOOK TO GOD’S WORD FOR YOUR

STRENGTH

My soul weeps because of grief; Strengthen me according to Your word. Psalm 119:28 (NASB)

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

LOOK TO GOD’S WILL AS YOUR

GOAL

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 (NKJV)

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24 (NIV)

LOOK TO GOD’S GRACE AS YOUR

HOPE

He has brought us by faith into this experience of God’s grace, in which we now live. And so we boast of the hope we have of sharing God’s glory!Romans 5:2 (TEV)

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NIV)

The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Luke 22:61 (NIV) Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
