GOD’S PROMISES ABOUT GIVING

  1. God wants me to build my life on his promises

  2. God makes both unconditional & conditional promises

  3. God makes promises to us for two reason:

1. To teach us

to trust Him in difficult times.

“When I’m hurting, I find comfort in your promise that leads to life.” Psalm 119:50 (CEV)

“You’re my refuge and shield, and your promises are my only source of hope.” Psalm 119:114 (LB)

2. To make us

more like Him.

“God made these great and marvelous promises, so that his nature would become part of us.” 2 Peter 1:4a (CEV)

9 REWARDS GOD PROMISES TO ME IF I LEARN TO BE GENEROUS WITH MONEY

1. GOD PROMISES

GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN TO ME IF I AM GENEROUS.

“Good will come to him who is generous . . .” Psalm 112:5 (NIV)

“Generous people will be blessed . . .” Proverbs 22:9 (NCV)

2. GOD PROMISES

MY CHILDREN WILL BE BLESSED IF I AM GENEROUS.

“The godly are always generous…and their children will be blessed.” Psalm 37:26 (NIV)

3. GOD PROMISES

TO BLESS MY WORK AND MY BUSINESS IF i AM GENEROUS.

“Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income, then your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will overflow with the finest wine.”Proverbs 3:9 (LB/NLT)

“A generous man will prosper and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)

4. GOD PROMISES

I WILL BE HAPPIER IF I AM GENEROUS.

“Remember the words of our Lord Jesus himself who said, ‘There is more happiness in giving than in receiving.’” Acts 20:35

5. GOD PROMISES

MY INFLUENCE WILL INCREASE IF I AM GENEROUS.
“The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.” Proverbs 11:24 (Mes)

6. GOD PROMISES

I WILL END UP WITH MORE IF I AM GENEROUS.

Jesus: “Give, and it will be given back to you in full measure. What you receive will need to be pressed down and shaken together, but it will still run over and be poured into your lap! The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.”Luke 6:38

“Some people give generously and end up with more, while others don’t give what they should and end up poor.” Proverbs 11:24 (NCV)

“Being generous to the poor is like lending to the Lord, and God will pay you back for what you’ve done.” Proverbs 19:17

7. GOD PROMISES

TO MEET ALL MY NEEDS IF I AM GENEROUS.

Paul: “I want you to have the good that comes from giving . . . My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need.”Philippians 4:17b, 19 (NCV)

“He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to their needs will receive curses.” Proverbs 28:27 (NIV)

“You should give as you have decided in your heart to give. Never give reluctantly or under pressure because God loves the person who gives cheerfully. THEN God will generously provide for you, so that in ALL things at ALL times you’ll have ALL that you need and plenty left over to give more to every good work.”2 Corinthians 9:7-8

8. GOD PROMISES

HE WILL MULTIPLY WHAT I GIVE HIM.

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.  2 Corinthians 9:6 (NIV)

“Just as God gives seed to farmers and bread for food, God gives you a supply of seed (to plant) then he makes it grow so there’s a great harvest from your generosity. And God will make you rich enough to be generous at all times.”2 Corinthians 9:10-11

“Be generous, and one day you will be rewarded.” Ecclesiastes 11:1 (CEV)

9. GOD PROMISES

MY GIVING IS STORED UP IN HEAVEN.

“Use your money to do good . . . and give generously, always being ready to share with others whatever God has given you. By doing this you will be storing up real treasure for yourself–it is the only safe investment for eternity!”1 Timothy 6:18-19a (LB)

Jesus: “Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make (eternal) friends. In this way, your generosity stores up a reward for you in heaven.”Luke 16:9

MY STARTING POINT:

TITHING (10%)

“‘Is it right to rob God? Yet you are robbing me,’ says the Lord. But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ ‘By not returning your tithes and offering. Bring your whole tithe into My Storehouse, that there may be food in my house. TEST ME in this and SEE IF I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and POUR OUT SO MUCH BLESSING that there will not be enough room for you to store it! Then I will prevent the pests from devouring your crops . . .”Malachi 3:8-11

GOD’S WAKE-UP CALL

And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.Romans 13:11 (NIV)
And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.Romans 13:11 (NIV)

The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:12 (NIV)

• KAIROS:
A
TURNING POINT

THAT MUST BE PRESSED THROUGH TO ACHIEVE ITS

GOD INTENDED PURPOSE

God has rescued us from the power of darkness and has brought us into the kingdom of his Son, whom he loves. His Son paid the price to free us, which means that our sins are forgiven.Colossians 1:13-14 (GW)

Don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing!Romans 13:11 (Message)

Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges and officials of Israel, and they presented themselves before God. 2Joshua said to all the people . . . “Now, fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the river and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”Joshua 24:1-2, 14-15 (NIV)

• THE CHOICE IS

INTENTIONAL

“Choose for yourselves.”

• THE CHOICE IS

URGENT

“Choose for yourselves this day.”

• THE CHOICE IS

UNAVOIDABLE

“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

• THE CHOICE IS

GENERATIONAL

“As for me and my house . . .”

Then the people answered . . . “We too will serve the Lord, because he is our God . . . We will serve the Lord.” Then Joshua said, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the Lord” . . . “Now, then, throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the Lord.” And the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God and obey him.”Joshua 24:16-24 (NIV)

Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. Jonah 2:8 (NIV)

They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves. 2 Kings 17:15 (NIV)

Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

Put to death, therefore, the evil desires at work in you, such as sexual immorality, indecency, lust, evil desires, covetousness and greed, which is idolatry.Colossians 3:5 (GNB/NIV)

• HOW DO YOU GET RID OF AN IDOL?

STARVE IT TO DEATH

On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he drew up for them decrees and laws. And Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak near the holy place of the LORD. “See!” he said to all the people. “This stone will be a witness against us. It has heard all the words the LORD has said to us. It will be a witness against you if you are untrue to your God.” Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.Joshua 24:25-28 (NIV)

DEALING WITH DRIFTING

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2:1 (NIV)

But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News.Colossians 1:23a (NLT)

Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups . . . Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it.2 Corinthians 13:5 (MSG)

Two examples of drifting in the Bible: David and Peter

One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful . . . Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her.2 Samuel 11:2,4 (NIV)

Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Luke 22:60-62 (NIV)

HOW DO YOU KEEP FROM DRIFTING?

LOOK TO GOD’S LOVE FOR YOUR

COMFORT

I serve you, LORD. Comfort me with your love, just as you have promised. Psalm 119:76 (CEV)

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3 (NLT)

LOOK TO GOD’S WORD FOR YOUR

STRENGTH

My soul weeps because of grief; Strengthen me according to Your word. Psalm 119:28 (NASB)

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

LOOK TO GOD’S WILL AS YOUR

GOAL

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 (NKJV)

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24 (NIV)

LOOK TO GOD’S GRACE AS YOUR

HOPE

He has brought us by faith into this experience of God’s grace, in which we now live. And so we boast of the hope we have of sharing God’s glory!Romans 5:2 (TEV)

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NIV)

The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Luke 22:61 (NIV) Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)

The Space between our Prayers and Praise

What do we do while we wait for our prayers to be answered?   In Daniel 10:11-13,  Daniel's prayer was answered the first day he prayed...
